Brentford Clothes Repair Café runs a session once a month to encourage people to mend their own clothes by providing equipment and advice.

We established the café in 2022 to provide a collaborative space to learn new things and challenge the fashion status quo which heavily impacts on our planet. We are a friendly and inclusive group, always looking to welcome new members into the world of mending!

Each session will focus on a suggested theme and will run 9:30 – 11:30am in the glass fronted meeting room off Spire Café as follows:

  • Friday 24th May: Making slogan tote bags!
  • Friday 28th June: Stitch, stick and fix – decorative embroidery
  • Friday 27th September
  • Friday 25th October
  • Friday 22nd November
  • Friday 13th December (Christmas Jumper Day)

I particularly enjoyed the darning session as I feel that it is something I can definitely use. It was new to think that darning could be used not only as a means of mending but also to make patterns on (unholed) clothes. I like all of the sessions for their;visible mending approach. I have only ever thought of mending as being as hidden as possible before

I have enjoyed taking part in an enjoyable activity which develops skills and benefits my general health and wellbeing. I have met members of the community which has been a joyful experience
